20 Districts Shut Schools as Severe Cold Wave Grips State

RAJASTHAN WINTER ALERT

JAIPUR – A brutal cold wave and a thick blanket of dense fog have paralyzed daily life across Rajasthan, prompting district administrations in 20 districts to order an immediate suspension of school classes. The move aims to protect young children as temperatures in several parts of the state have plummeted below 5°C.

Primary Schools Hit Hardest: In the capital city of Jaipur, District Collector Jitendra Kumar Soni has ordered all government and private schools to remain closed for students from Pre-Primary to Class 5 until January 10, 2026.

Middle School Breaks: For students in Classes 6 to 8, the holiday period is currently set until January 8, 2026. Extended Closures: Sri Ganganagar has implemented one of the longest breaks, with schools for Nursery to Class 5 remaining shut until January 12.

While students are on holiday, district authorities have clarified that teachers and administrative staff must report to work as usual. Board examinations and pre-scheduled practicals for senior classes (9–12) will generally proceed as planned, though some districts have shifted timings to start as late as 10:30 AM.

> Pro-Tip: Weather conditions are being reviewed daily. If the cold wave persists, further extensions are expected later this week.
