AMRAVATI: A major political drama took place during the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections of the Amravati Municipal Corporation. Meera Kamble, a corporator from the MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) party, has been expelled from the party after she voted in favor of the BJP candidate.

During the elections held at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hall, the MIM party had decided to remain neutral (not to vote for anyone). However, Meera Kamble, elected from the Badnera Old Town ward, surprised everyone by raising her hand in support of Shrichand Tejwani (BJP candidate for Mayor),Sachin Bhende (Yuva Swabhiman Party candidate for Deputy Mayor)

Even after the party’s group leader asked her to lower her hand, she refused to change her decision and remained firm on her support for the BJP-led alliance.

Party Action

MIM City President Haji Irfan immediately announced her expulsion from the party, stating that there is "no place for traitors" in the organization. State President Imtiaz Jaleel has also taken the matter seriously and issued a show-cause notice to the person in charge, Punjani.

Meera Kamble’s Reaction

Responding to the action, Meera Kamble said that she stands by her decision and is ready to face any action from the party. She mentioned that she acted according to her independent thoughts.

Will She Lose Her Post?

Although she has been removed from the party, there is a big question about whether she will lose her position as a corporator. Reports suggest that MIM had not issued a formal 'Whip' (a legal order to members). Without a Whip, it becomes legally difficult to disqualify a corporator under the Anti-Defection Law.
