BARAMATI, Jan 28, 2026 – In a shocking development that has sent shockwaves across the nation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has reportedly passed away in a tragic aircraft accident.

The accident occurred early this morning, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at approximately 8:45 AM. The Deputy CM was traveling from Mumbai to his home turf, Baramati, to lead a series of campaign rallies for the upcoming local body elections.

According to preliminary reports, the chartered aircraft experienced a technical failure during its final descent. Eyewitnesses at the Baramati airstrip reported seeing the plane lose altitude rapidly before crashing and bursting into flames near the runway.

Multiple media outlets, citing sources from the local administration, have reported that Ajit Pawar and three others on board lost their lives in the crash.There are fears that the death toll could rise to six, including the pilots and security staff.

His wife, Sunetra Pawar, and son, Parth Pawar, have reportedly rushed to the site from Mumbai. NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule is also expected to reach Baramati shortly.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a high-level investigation to determine whether the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, bird hit, or weather conditions.Local police have cordoned off the crash site to preserve evidence and allow forensic teams to conduct their investigation.

All government programs and political rallies in the state have been suspended as a mark of respect.
