Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to implement a 10% seasonal fare hike effective from April 15. This move is aimed at capitalizing on the increased passenger rush during the summer holiday season.

According to the official announcement, commuters traveling to their hometowns or vacation spots will now have to shell out extra for their journeys. The hike will make long-distance travel more expensive by ₹10 to ₹100, depending on the destination.

The new rates will apply to Ordinary (Sadhi), Midi, Express (Jalad), and Night Service buses. The minimum fare for adults will now be ₹12, while for children, it will be ₹7. For example, the fare for a single stage in an ordinary bus, which was previously ₹10.05, will now increase to ₹11.05.

The MSRTC traditionally introduces seasonal hikes during peak periods like summer and Diwali to boost revenue. However, the report highlights that a similar 10% hike announced during Diwali last year had to be withdrawn following intense public outcry.
